Evaluation

In this project I feel I handled it well as we I knew what was expected and what I had to do in this term. I feel I struggled with certain things but I feel I did well on other things.

The things I feel I didn't do so well at was creating the mood boards and the story boards. I know Sharon went through it so many times and I did get the jist in the end but I felt that I can probably making it harder for myself than it should have been. I over came this problem by looking at other peoples using YouTube and even asking people on other courses for their opinions on my work to see what they thought of it and how I could improve.

I think what I did more this time was ask other people out side of my course what ideas they had on my word that I was given. Getting ideas from different people gives you inspiration that you never would have thought of.

I think I did well in the research of my given word and my chosen brand as I collected a few ideas for each, backed them up with why I decided on the idea and how it is relevant.

This term I liked shooting my images too, I liked being creative with the look I had chosen to do and I feel I tried my best in trying to portray that in the images that I decided to pick as my final ones.

The word I got I felt was really hard and a little boring as I could only think of words or paper - my word was "Browse". I think other people got something really interesting and you could go with so many ideas and mine wasn't as exciting but I went with it and I tried my best to produce and research a great image.

Problems in the studio were the lights either not working or the flashes not flashing and connecting together. This was a pain as I had to take it all down get different lights and then start again but I eventually got there. Also, the day helpers in the studios weren't that helpful, the lady didn't seem like she could be bothered to help us and so that made me feel uncomfortable asking for help from some one.

Everything else in this project I found really helpful, the sessions with Chris are always good and I find them really interesting using different lighting and boards to create light and shade. Also the different lenses for the camera to get the perfect eye shot or the perfect lip shot. I really enjoy those lessons! Peter was a massive help to me when I was editing my brand image and helping my create my PDF document too, he is very patient which is good!
Sharon is also always a great help, giving advice and inspiration when you need it filling your brain with ideas that you didn't think of.
All of the tutors are a massive help in helping create my final look and I'm really happy that we have that available.

Over all, I am really pleased with the outcome of my images, the editing, the shooting and the research really helps you get into the right frame of mind and getting what you want out of it.
I think if I was to do this project again I would love a more interesting word to base my image on but apart from that I wouldn't change anything.

Chosen Brand Image - Edited

Here is my final brand image, I firstly edited the image the same as I did on my other images using Adobe Bridge. I am really pleased with how the image came out and all the help from Peter in the lesson to help me get everything right in the editing stage.

Here is what I did to my images based on what tools and editing I did on the last images - Editing Final Image. The only major bit of work I feel I had to do on these images is around the eye on the right, and changing the brightness etc to get the image bright and the skin lovely and glowy like the Dior adverts.

Here is my before, after and the final piece -

Chosen Word Images - Edited

Here are the images that I have chosen for my final images, I chose these because they were my favourite ones! I like how the model is posing, the composition of the images and I haven't had to edit the images that much either.
I edited my images using the same tools as I did in the last project which you can see how I did it in this post - Editing Final Images

I have put the before and after images next to each other -

As you can see I haven't done much editing to the final images as I think they looked okay anyway. I added some more highlighting and changed the lighting to brighten it up a little bit too.

Assignment

Title:  Word (Digital Image Production 2)

Location

Photography Studio: JM011, Southampton Solent University

Concept

The concept of the image was based on a word – Browse. My final idea was based on newspapers and social media blinding society – newspapers were the first form of “media”.
Hair will be slick and straight – like paper- behind the models ears, wearing the glasses wrapped in the newspaper, perfect base to the skin with a contour and highlight. The lips bold.

Technical Requirements

Using a white background, produce three colour beauty portraits emphasizing on the glasses, the flawless skin and lips. Three pictures will be front, side and ¾ shot of front.
The set up will be two lights with soft boxes at the back facing the front reflecting off white boards, one main light above the photographer facing the model. Using a beauty lens too.

Moodboard

My mood board shows how I want my image to be taken, with the glasses on the face, strong make up, slick hair, bright lighting, a strong and bold lip, the news paper and social media represents our 'blindness' to normal life. Strong facial poses showing off the lips and the glasses.

There are some of the images I liked the best -

There was a few things that didn't go to plan for my photo shoot and they were all to do with the set up of the studio.
The first thing was the backdrops weren't the right colour, I needed a white backdrop. I went to go find the student who was helping in the studios and she changed them for me but she didn't do it with a kind heart. She didn't seem like she wanted to help at all.
Once that was resolved we got to setting up the lighting, the flash wouldn't all connect to each other and the main light didn't work, in the end we took everything down and did it again this time it didn't work either. We then took away the main lighting on the wheels and stand and replaced it with a normal light set up with the beauty dish, raised enough to hit on to the model.
This wasted almost an hour of our time in the studio so we had to quickly get everything shot and put away.
The images turned out really well and I am pleased with them it was just annoying that the equipment wanted to go wrong on the day but didn't on any practice shoots!
