Evaluation
In this project I feel I handled it well as we I knew what was expected and what I had to do in this term. I feel I struggled with certain things but I feel I did well on other things.
The things I feel I didn't do so well at was creating the mood boards and the story boards. I know Sharon went through it so many times and I did get the jist in the end but I felt that I can probably making it harder for myself than it should have been. I over came this problem by looking at other peoples using YouTube and even asking people on other courses for their opinions on my work to see what they thought of it and how I could improve.
I think what I did more this time was ask other people out side of my course what ideas they had on my word that I was given. Getting ideas from different people gives you inspiration that you never would have thought of.
I think I did well in the research of my given word and my chosen brand as I collected a few ideas for each, backed them up with why I decided on the idea and how it is relevant.
This term I liked shooting my images too, I liked being creative with the look I had chosen to do and I feel I tried my best in trying to portray that in the images that I decided to pick as my final ones.
The word I got I felt was really hard and a little boring as I could only think of words or paper - my word was "Browse". I think other people got something really interesting and you could go with so many ideas and mine wasn't as exciting but I went with it and I tried my best to produce and research a great image.
Problems in the studio were the lights either not working or the flashes not flashing and connecting together. This was a pain as I had to take it all down get different lights and then start again but I eventually got there. Also, the day helpers in the studios weren't that helpful, the lady didn't seem like she could be bothered to help us and so that made me feel uncomfortable asking for help from some one.
Everything else in this project I found really helpful, the sessions with Chris are always good and I find them really interesting using different lighting and boards to create light and shade. Also the different lenses for the camera to get the perfect eye shot or the perfect lip shot. I really enjoy those lessons! Peter was a massive help to me when I was editing my brand image and helping my create my PDF document too, he is very patient which is good!
Sharon is also always a great help, giving advice and inspiration when you need it filling your brain with ideas that you didn't think of.
All of the tutors are a massive help in helping create my final look and I'm really happy that we have that available.
Over all, I am really pleased with the outcome of my images, the editing, the shooting and the research really helps you get into the right frame of mind and getting what you want out of it.
I think if I was to do this project again I would love a more interesting word to base my image on but apart from that I wouldn't change anything.

Chosen Brand Image - Edited
Here is my final brand image, I firstly edited the image the same as I did on my other images using Adobe Bridge. I am really pleased with how the image came out and all the help from Peter in the lesson to help me get everything right in the editing stage.
Here is what I did to my images based on what tools and editing I did on the last images - Editing Final Image. The only major bit of work I feel I had to do on these images is around the eye on the right, and changing the brightness etc to get the image bright and the skin lovely and glowy like the Dior adverts.
Here is my before, after and the final piece -

Chosen Word Images - Edited
Here are the images that I have chosen for my final images, I chose these because they were my favourite ones! I like how the model is posing, the composition of the images and I haven't had to edit the images that much either.
I edited my images using the same tools as I did in the last project which you can see how I did it in this post - Editing Final Images
I have put the before and after images next to each other -

As you can see I haven't done much editing to the final images as I think they looked okay anyway. I added some more highlighting and changed the lighting to brighten it up a little bit too.

Word Photo Shoot
Today I did my shoot for my word, I did the set up I practised with and the model I also practised with and the images turned out really well.
Here is my photo call sheet -
There are some of the images I liked the best -

There was a few things that didn't go to plan for my photo shoot and they were all to do with the set up of the studio.
The first thing was the backdrops weren't the right colour, I needed a white backdrop. I went to go find the student who was helping in the studios and she changed them for me but she didn't do it with a kind heart. She didn't seem like she wanted to help at all.
Once that was resolved we got to setting up the lighting, the flash wouldn't all connect to each other and the main light didn't work, in the end we took everything down and did it again this time it didn't work either. We then took away the main lighting on the wheels and stand and replaced it with a normal light set up with the beauty dish, raised enough to hit on to the model.
This wasted almost an hour of our time in the studio so we had to quickly get everything shot and put away.
The images turned out really well and I am pleased with them it was just annoying that the equipment wanted to go wrong on the day but didn't on any practice shoots!

Assignment
Title: Word (Digital Image Production 2)
Location
Photography Studio: JM011, Southampton Solent University
Concept
The concept of the image was based on a word – Browse. My final idea
was based on newspapers and social media blinding society – newspapers were
the first form of “media”.
Hair will be slick and straight – like paper- behind the models ears,
wearing the glasses wrapped in the newspaper, perfect base to the skin with a
contour and highlight. The lips bold.
Technical Requirements
Using a white background, produce three colour beauty portraits
emphasizing on the glasses, the flawless skin and lips. Three pictures will
be front, side and ¾ shot of front.
The set up will be two lights with soft boxes at the back facing the
front reflecting off white boards, one main light above the photographer
facing the model. Using a beauty lens too.
Moodboard
My mood board shows how I want my image to be taken, with the glasses on the face, strong make up, slick hair, bright lighting, a strong and bold lip, the news paper and social media represents our 'blindness' to normal life. Strong facial poses showing off the lips and the glasses.

Chosen Design
I have chosen to go with design 1, this is the face chart to my design -
I found lots of different inspirational things for this design and I feel it's very modern and a 'now' situation that we have.
The glasses show how we're so addicted to social media and browsing the web that we are blinded by words and pictures.
The first newspaper was brought out in England in 1665 - the oldest form of 'media'. This is why I have chosen to wrap glasses in newspaper as it's the eldest form of media, we still read and produce newspapers and you browse the newspaper too.
The make up will be very on point, very modern and now with juicy lips, contoured, soft skin and slick hair.
In my design I was going to have the hair wavey but behind the ears off the face, I have now decided that I want to keep the hair straight and sleek.
I think this would go better with the look as paper is straight, computer screens and mobile phones are straight and we don't read or browse in a wave - we do it looking straight at something.
Design 1 - Face Charts & Looks
This is my first design on my face chart -
Products I Am Going To Use -
- Illamasqua matte primer
- Illamasqua loose powder
- Kryolan foundation palette
- Kryolan concealer palette
- Kryolan glamerous glow palette
- Illamasqua due palette
- Illamasqua or MAC palette for brows
- Supra colour palette
This design is based on the first idea I had, with the glasses and the paper over the top.
As news papers were first published on an orangey tinge paper I will be using the Financial Times news paper to wrap around the glasses as this will represent the first news paper being published which was in 1665 and the first form of public media.
This is how I can see the look going, I would like the model to be posed to one side as in looking over to the corner.
I think that is how I would like the model but will test shots I will figure that out.

Photography Practice For Final Images
Today I did test shots for the images I want to produce for my word and for my brand that I was given.
Here are some of the practice shots -
First I practiced the shots I want to produce for my word - browse.
The glasses will be covered in newspaper so you can't see the actual lenses of the glasses. She will also be my model for the final shoot too with perfect skin a bold lip and slick hair.
The setup will be this -
The lighting will be quite soft but bright enough to get the soft skin. The back ground will be white too and not black - we used black today as the white one was unable to come down.
I like the shots I produced as I feel I like the way I was thinking about what I wanted to do and how the images came out on the practice is how I want them to be on the final image but better.
Here are some of the practice shots -
For my brand I also did some practice shots, as it is a perfume I want to show a lot of skin and body especially the upper body such as the chest and shoulders. So I wanted ny model to one side showing some of the body but her face looking at the camera. The back drop will also be white or a very pale pink colour to keep it very neutral.
The set up will be the same but with a brighter light as Dior has a bright sense to their images and I want to replicate that.
The hair will be loosely up and off the face possibly a little around the face and the make up will be very natural but flawless and eye brows will be very strong.
Here are some of the practice shots -
I was really pleased with how the images came out as I knew what I wanted to do I just needed to make sure that they would work. I'm pleased with the outcome of the images too I really like the set up, the poses and the ideas I had in my head.the only thing that's a little annoying is when you use a studio and for some reason or another the back drops don't like to come down. So we had to use a black one today. For the look the model had it worked well but for my image I need it very bright and white so the black wouldn't work.
Over all I'm really pleased with the images and I'm glad I had a practice session to see that my ideas would work.
Storyboard Feedback
I presented my story boards that I produced in a recent post to my class and Sharon and I got some good feedback from where they think I should take my image.
I explained both of the boards I had made, one being very natural and neutral colours and the other having a pink tone to it being really youthful.
The feedback I got was that the boards were good I had clear indication how I wanted the lighting, the hair, the make up and the colour schemes. But I wasn't too sure myself on what image I actually wanted to produce.
The ideas they gave me were to concentrate on the first board going into the neutral shades, the look of the ads are very wedding-ish. Not in your face wedding but there is a slight hint of one, the white and the pale pink, the settings and the props in the shoot do give away that there is a wedding theme.
I have decided to go with this idea but I also have to link it to my word browse.
I was thinking of doing a white or very pale pink back ground, the model will have her hair back vey slick, most of doors perfume ads for Miss Dior are very skin baring. My model will be wearing something that shows off her skin such as the shoulders and the chest area.
A wedding look would be very simple make up but perfect skin and eye brows, the lips would be very soft possibly naked lips and the eyes have a little darkness to them too.
A typical bridal look on the model is what I am thinking and looking st the Dior ads that is exactly what they have produced too and I want to keep in the same theme of what they have produced.
I have produced a story board of what I actually want to produce in styling, poses, hair, make up, lighting and cropping the image -
Story Board - Dior
As I have been given the brand Dior and I also have to link it back to my word for the previous little project which was "browse".
The first thing I did was look into ads they have already produced and I found these -
I feel most of the ads for the perfume Miss Dior are very well lit, very bight and the skin is so flawless. Most of the images are from the hips up wards or a full body shot. I think I want to focus more on a close up possibly starting at the bottom of the rib cage upwards.
The make up is a very flawless yet simple, which I will stick to keeping the skin soft and subtle, the eyebrows are defined, the eyes a little dark but mainly very soft looking and the lips are neutral too.
There are a lot of different hair styles in the ads, some are very loose and flowy and the others are tightly pulled back in to a pony tail. I think I like the loose hair flowing down the back with some texture to the hair the best, it looks very sexual which I think most perfume ads are - sexual yet classy as when you wear the perfume you want to be seen as classy and looking and smelling good.
Here are some of my ideas in story boards -
My first story board is based on the nude look, very natural and innocent. The hair will be wavy and flowy probably going back over the shoulders, the make up will be soft and neutral too. The image could be shot from a distance and the cropped to just the top of the body. The lighting will be quite full on so the skin looks flawless. The image will be very bright looking as most Dior ads are they aren't dull or dark for their perfume ads. I feel this look would appeal to most girls and women, as the nude look is very popular make up look at the minute and it would also appeal to older women too as it would look classy.
For my second story board I have based my board the ads for Miss Dior where there is a softer pink mood. I like this feeling of the ads as it looks very girly and youth full. I would use some pink flowers in the ad around the model, the hair would be soft and flowy too going over the shoulder. I would have subtle make up with a nice rosey pink lipstick to match the feel of the flowers. I want the vibe to be really girly, young and youth full. Most girls like to smell good and fell good aboutthemself and I feel the pinks and the youth fullness would appeal to them too.

My Brand - Dior
For my next project I got given a beauty brand which I have to produce an ad for. The product I got given was their perfume, so I will have to base my image on "perfume" which could be around the neck area, instead of lips for lipstick for example.
Background
Christian Dior is a French designer, first founded in 1946 it now is one of the biggest selling luxury brands of the 21st Century. The company designs and also retails handbamgs. purses, shoes, accessories, clothing for men and women, make up, perfume and skin care products. It's main target audience is for women but they do have ranges for men and for children too. They are sold world wide, in retail stores and online, their biggest competitors are well known too - Chanel, YSl, Burberry and Gucci.
The launch of the first Dior perfume was in 1947 called Miss Dior, it was names after his sister, after that more lines were added to the Dior perfume range and it became oneo fthe most popular perfume ranges to date.
Over the years the ads have changed, the way models advertise the product has changed and so have the actual shape of the bottle.
They are a well known luxury perfume line, they include really famous actresses such as Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron.
The one advert which I love that Dior created as the short film with Charlize Theron, it featured Marylin Monroe, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich - they look like there about to take to the catwalk for Dior.

Design 4 - Face Charts & Looks
This is my first design on my face chart -
Products I Am Going To Use -
- Illamasqua matte primer
- Illamasqua loose powder
- Kryolan foundation palette
- Kryolan concealer palette
- Kryolan glamerous glow palette
- Illamasqua due palette
- Illamasqua or MAC palette for brows
- Supra colour palette
This design is based on the fourth idea I had, with the glitter on the eye brows. The glitter will be black and white representing the black and white of internet pages. The glitter will represent how we love to look on social media and how we love the gossip of internet pages too, it gives us a sparkle in our lives.
The image will be shot either face on or on the side so you can see all the sparkle on the eye brows.

Design 3 - Face Charts & Looks
This is my second design on my face chart I produced two face charts as I have two different ideas for this look -
Products I Am Going To Use -
- Illamasqua matte primer
- Illamasqua loose powder
- Illamasqua white base
- Kryolan essence palette
- Liquid or Gel liner
- Illamasqua or MAC palette for brows
- Supra colour palette possible for the white lips
This design is based on the second idea I had, the codes across the face or the neck are going to based on actual computer codes based on social media codes for websites. The face will be pale like a piece of paper or the background to a website.
The codes will be coming up the neck - to show people being swallowed up by social media. Or the codes will be going across the eyes as were are blind to other things when we are on social media.
The image I want to produce will be a frontal shot to the camera to show the codes full on the face.

Practice - Week 2
In today's practice session we had to set up the studios like we did last week but just in our group as a 4. We took images of each other practised different poses and some different back lighting to see what images worked with what light.
Setting up the studio was the same as last week, we got two lights at the back of the studio with big soft boxes on them to keep the light soft, the sides we had two white reflector board reflecting the back lights on to the front of the model.
In front of the model we had the big three leg light with a beauty dish on the light facing the model but raised above the head slightly. We used a reflector too in some of the images to see what light it gave off.
Some of the images we too were hair flicking, hair at the front and the back of the face, side on shots and looking over the shoulder shots. We did use 3 different lenses a 100mm, 55mm and 85mm lens.
Unfortunately we forgot to get the photos from off the computer we used and by the time we remembered to do it they would have been removed off the computer. I have one or two photos that were on my phone that I took though..
I would say this practice session was good as it gave us the chance to see how organised you have to be when setting up a studio, getting everything set up correctly and safely, making sure all the lights work and are synchronised together too.
I enjoyed this lesson as I think it gave us a chance to see the different lenses and different lighting try work out what works well and what doesn't.
The only thing about setting up a bigger set up is that it takes more time, but the if you know what you are doing and where you want everything I think it is much easier to do.

Developing My Designs - Design 4
This design is based on the eyebrows on the face, framing them with sparkles and glitter!
Design 4
I wanted to produce a look which does focus on the eyebrows. I wanted to do this because I feel that we use books, the internet and social media and newspapers to look and research things that we like. These things give us happiness and inspiration as we look at what we want to look at. It may be celebrity gossip, or online shopping or looking on social media, we do these things because we want to. We browse all over the place and look at things that we want to look at because that's what gives us the sparkle in our life. We learn and we understand and we see what we want to see.
I feel this would be a good thing to base a design on as it on the eyebrows and I have found a Chanel campaign for inspiration and another great make up artist too called Natalia Marszalek. Their work is really cool and I think it would go really well.
I want to use pale colours on the skin keeping the skin tone really cool and icy like a piece of paper, on the face the jewels and glitter that will be used are going to be the same tones too but I will also include blacks in there too. The black will represent the words and letters we look at online. Everything is in black and white mainly unless there is a colour scheme but, black and white are both colours that are on opposite ends of the colour spectrum, are the most frequently used colours and when printed everything is black and white.
I would have the hair styled in a slick way keeping the hair off the face, the hair will be parted but will be tucked behind the ears. I want to keep the hair slick and smooth like paper. There will be no hairs out of place and it will be all in place nice and neat.
Here is my mood board with images that have inspired me to create this look -
These images are the inspiration in the textures and colours I want on my design -
- The ice - the icy skin tone of my model, the white will represent paper that we read from and browse most things from
- The black and white glitter - this is what I want around the eyebrows, showing we sparkle and love the internet, looking and searching for things that inspire us
- The rain drops - the glitter will mostly be white with a few black spots on, the black will represent the text you read where are the white is the majority of what we see as a background
- The blue ocean - the hair will be soft and tucked behind the ears, which remonded me of a soft sea flowing down the back of the neck like the hair
- Black and White text - My colour scheme will be black and white as they are the most popular colours to have internet websites, books, newspapers and magazines based on.

New Design Idea 4
As I was doing my research and my mood board presentation to my class, I then got told to research Peter Philips and hos Chanel campaign on the brows.
In his campaign he put jewels on the eye brows and they look so good!
I was really fascinated by this look and I thought this would be a good design to look in to.
For the look of this design I was thinking about keeping it white faces and maybe a contour to the cheeks to give it some structure, but not a lot of colour will go in the face structure.
The lips will be plain and covered over with the same colour as the face to try keep it plain as I can like a piece of paper.
On the eyebrows I will have jewels or glitter on them too to give the look some edge to it.
I don't want to over power the face but I do want to give it some thing about it.
I want to do this because when we look and browse at something there is always something about it that gives us that feeling that we are interested in it and it gives us inspiration or knowledge in it to keep going and keep reading - which makes some one happy.
